Heinrich Wiebe gravestone

This photo is of the Heinrich Wiebe (1839 - 1897) gravestone. The stone was originally erected in Edenburg in their old cemetery which later became a small plot in a field. Fearing it would be ploughed over, the Manitoba Mennonite Historical Society moved the headstone to what is known as Cairn Corner near Gretna, where it stands today. Wiebe was one of the 11 delegates to visit Manitoba in 1873 to see if they could recommend the area for settlement to Russian Mennonites of the Bergthal settlement. He died in Edenburg.
