John Doerksen's Retirement

This is a photo of John Doerksen's retirement from the Refugee Assistance Program in May, 1980. On the far left is John Wieler. Trudy Wiebe is centre front, and to her right are Helen Doerksen and John Doerksen. Vern Ratzlaff is at the right, second row. All others are representatives of the Immigration and Settlement Services (government program).

Ken McMaster, Bud Cullen and Jacob M. Klassen

This is a photo of at the signing, Manitoba's Minister of Labour, Ken McMaster, left, participated together with the federal Minister of Immigration Bud Cullen and MCC (Canada's executive secretary Jacob M. Klassen. MCC signed an agreement with the Canadian Department of Employment and Immigration which will allow it to sponsor Asian refugees to Canada. (See MBH, March 16, 1979, pp. 12-13.)

This photo shows the Hoong family, whose father died while in the Macau camp near Hong Kong. On the left are Ernie and Elsie Rempel with their daughter, seated on the floor. They represent the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, in Winnipeg, sponsors of the Hoong family.
