Support Services Council was first established in 2001, elected by delegates at Mennonite Church Canada annual session. It's roles was to oversee communication, finances, development and constituency relations, human resources, property management, and annual assembly planning. The first executive secretary was Pam Peters-Pries. This office also related to outside bodies such as Mennonite Foundation and Canadian Mennonite (periodical). Some responsibilities shifted in 2010 to a Chief Operating Officer (later called Chief Administrative Officer, positions held by Louis Sawatzky and Vic Thiessen. Communications came under the jurisdiction of Church Engagement Council, created in 2010, Norm Dyck, appointed as Executive Secretary Church Engagement.
