Karl Stumpp, 1896-1982, was a world renowned authority of German-Russian history. He was often called "The Treasurer of Lost People". While teaching in Russia, he became fascinated in the movements and history of Germans from Russia. He was the chief editor of "Folk auf dem Weg" (1957-1963) and "Heimatbuecher", (1954-1966). Note
Kronau Colony is a daughter colony of the Molotschna Colony. It was founded between 1869 and 1870 by predominantly Evangelical Lutheran Germans from the area of the Taurien governate.
Captured German War Documents are the work of a team headed by Kommando Karl Stumpp. Mennonite minister Gerhard Fast was part of this team. Most of the material is a detailed demographic, cultural, racial and census survey of Nazi-occupied Ukraine in 1941-1943. Reports include charts and maps, relating to towns and villages describing individuals, families and ethnic groups (German, Jewish, Russian and Ukrainian), mixed marriages, village history, medical services, economic, cultural, religious, educational activities, church matters, farming and agriculture, employment, economic and political conditions under Communism. Statistical material of 327 communities was gathered.
