John Kroeker was born in 1910 to Peter Kroeker and Maria Hiebert. John attended the Mennonite German private school and later the public English school. He farmed and worked as a laborer in the Plum Coulee area of Manitoba, on the Mennonite West Reserve. He married Susan Penner (1911-2004) and had 6 children, 5 lived into adulthood. John served as a deacon in the Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church and on the board of Mennonite Pioneer Mission.
