John P. Thiessen came to Canada in 1924 and in 1931 married Helena (Giesbrecht) Thiessen and moved to Abbotsford, British Columbia He was the founder member of the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church. He was the first plumber and electrician in Clearbrook, BC. He was the founding member of Clearbrook Credit Union , now Envision, and helped found and build Tabor Retirement Home. He also volunteered with Wildwood Training Center for handicapped adults. and was one of the the founder members of Clearbrook Water Works.
