Jacob Wall
Jacob Wall was born on May 15, 1807 in Neuendorf, Chortitza, S. Russia. His parents were Johann Wall and Gertrude Wiebe. In 1828 he married his first wife Judith Dueck. They had 7 children. After she died he married (in 1842) Helena Neufeld . They had another 3 children.
In 1847 he was listed as the head of a household in the Chortitza Colony. Apparently he was a miller with his own windmill. He kept an extensive diary from 1824 – 1860 in which he recorded many events that occurred in the Chortitza Colony. Jacob died May 3, 1860.

This item is a diary begun by Johann Wall's father Jacob Wall of the Chortitza Colony in South Russia. It is a very unique item as very few diaries from this time period in Russia are available today. The diary begins with one entry a year and then slowly increases to over ten pages per year. Johann inherited the diary and brought it to Canada. Edward Enns of Winnipeg translated the manuscript and Glenn Penner published in Mennonite Family History April 1997 a listing of Chortitza Colony marriages found in the diary.
