This photo is of a meeting of the members of the Fernheim Colony, Paraguay. It was held after the Chaco-War, fought from 1932 - 1935 between Paraguay and Bolivia. The banner on the back wall states: "The common good over self-interest! Believe and know: the begun community project is the future of our children." Among the people present was the daughter of General Jose F. Estigarribia, supreme commander of the Paraguayan military forces during the war. Unruh worked as a development worker in the fields of agriculture and cattle-raising in the Mennonite colonies in the Paraguayan Chaco from 1951 to 1983.
