Mary Ressler Beutler Correspondence

There are three categories of correspondence in this collection. The first is four letters sent to Mary Ressler in 1866 by Christian K. (CK) Nissley, Mary's betrothed. These letters are among the most interesting of the collection. The second category is a small set of letters sent to Mary while she was still living in Lancaster, PA. Among these are a letter from Peter Nissley, CK's father. The final set of letters were sent later, between 1887 and 1934 after Mary had moved to Wakarusa, Ind. and married John Beutler. They include Ressler family round robin letters.

The last folder in the collection contains a few items of ephemera.

Early Letters to Mary Ressler

A small set of letters written to Mary Ressler while she still lived in Lancaster, PA. In 1973 Mary moved to Wakarusa, Ind. Notable letters in this set include a letters from Peter Nissley, CK Nissleys father, recently-widowed Amos Herr the preacher who wrote "I Owe the Lord a Morning Song," and Gabriel and Anna Baer.

A small set of personal papers documenting the work of this Mennonite missionary couple in India at the turn of the century.  A significant portion of the collection is comprised of the letters and notes written by Mary Burkhard covering the beginning of the 20th century up to 1957. Other materials from Mary Burkhard Yoder include scrapbooks of clippings regarding Mennonite missionary work in India, and Mary Burkhard's Bibles. The collection also contains Jacob Burkhard's outgoing correspondence, and some incoming correspondence to Jacob Burkhold, the memoirs and diary of Jacob Burkhard.
