A small set of records documenting various educational and professional development events sponsored by the Mennonite Publishing House.  Most important in this series are the materials associated with the Mennonite Writers' Conferences organized by Elizabeth Showalter in the 1950s and early 1960s.  Papers presented at those conferences and the periodicals associated with the conferences (Mennonite Writers' Fellowship Quarterly Reports and The Christian Writer) may be found in this series.

Lorie Gooding Papers

  • US MCUSAA HM1/729
  • Collection
  • 1956-1989

Personal papers of an Ohio Mennonite mother and author, best known for her poetry.  Materials consist primarily of handwritten, typed, and published poems, prose, and plays.  It appears that some of the published poems may predate 1956, but there is no direct evidence within the collection to support this supposition. Volunteers at  Millersburg Mennonite Church transcibed Gooding's poetry into MSWord.  These files are availble on CDs housed with the collection.

Researchers will also find biographical information and photographs and Gooding's correspondence with Ruth Erb.

Solomon Francis Gingerich Writings

  • US MCUSAA HM1/271
  • Collection
  • 1942, undated

A small set of typed literary and non-fiction manuscripts, including a number of short stories, an untitled novel (seemingly about an Amish-Mennonite who becomes a university president), non-fiction works on church creeds and literature, and his dissertation about William Blake and William Wordsworth.  Two short stories are attributed to different authors: Beulah Gingerich and  O. Sonnenschein.  It is unclear whether these are pseudonyms used by Gingerich.

Also included is correspondence by Melvin Gingerich, nephew of Solomon Francis Gingerich, regarding his uncle's book Poems and Comments.
