A set of personal papers documenting Alan Hochstetler's voluntary service work in Vietnam and Korea under the auspices of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).  The papers consist primarily of correspondence from Hochstetler to his family in Nappanee, Indiana.  The letters provide a lot of detail about the daily work and activities of Hochstetler and other MCC volunteers.  In his correspondence, Hochstetler also discusses the weather, major political events, and his relationships with his fellow voluntary service workers.

Other materials in this collection include correspondence from MCC and the selective service, slides and photographs taken during his service work, photographs taken during a 1997 trip to Vietnam, clippings, a Vietnam diary, a hand drawn map of the Leprosarium, the Tidings of the Banmethouoat Leprosarium, a service certificate from MCC, and a nine-page manuscript containing personal reflections and recollections of his service work and his return trips to Vietnam.

This small set of organizational records consists of meeting minutes, treasurer's records, materials pertaining to the 1953 tornado in Flint, Michigan, and assorted programs, clippings, and historical notes contributed by members.

The collection of Daniel D. Stoltzfus, a volunteer with Near East Relief, includes letters, transcriptions, and a paper written about his service.

Administrative records of a camp facility established by the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp Association and later administered by the Mennonite Board of Missions. Frontier Boys Village provided a long-term rehabilitation program for adolescent boys completing the requirements of Colorado's juvenile justice system. Records include board meeting minutes, correspondence, financial and development records, policy documents, publicity materials, scrapbooks, and photographs.

Correspondence and data pertaining to the division of Mennonite Board of Missions responsible for voluntary service and other relief and development ministries.

Internal communications among service ministry staff members.  These memos include reports about visits to various voluntary service units, proposals for new units in places of need, and general updates to staff members.  Authors of the memos include Edna Beiler, John Eby, Dan Hess, Ray Horst, John Lehman, Don McCammon, Jerry Miller, Dorsa Mishler, Millard Osborn, Kenneth Seitz, Ken Smith, Gene E. Files associated with various Mennonite voluntary service sites no longer in operation.  Materials vary according to unit, but researchers may find in this series activity reports, financial reports, correspondence, personnel lists, and other official records.  This series also includes some photographs of Voluntary Service units and work.

A small set of corresponcence regarding a wide variety of issues in the early history of the mission board's service and relief ministries.  The majority of the correspondence is arranged chronologically, but five folders of correspondence are arranged by topic.

This series consists primarily of staff and board meeting minutes from 1935 through 1981.  Other materials include reports about various service and relief programs, descriptions of visits to voluntary service units, financial reports, and subject files from 1951 through 1970.  Materials in the late 1960s and 1970 address issues of race and ethnicity in the (old) Mennonite Church.

Later minutes of the Service Ministries division are most likely interfiled with the Mennonite Board of Missions Executive Board Minutes (IV-06-007).

Records from the summer service and work camps organized by Mennonite Board of Missions Service Ministries.

These records consist of unit reports and diaries, volunteer evaluations of their experiences, and miscellaneous materials associated with the (old) Mennonite Church's voluntary service program.  These records complement those in series IV-19-007, Closed Voluntary Service Unit records.  Documents pertaining to the earliest years of various closed units will be found in this series.

Scrapbooks containing snapshots, unit histories, descriptions of work and unit life, and other information about various Voluntary Service (V.S.) units sponsored by the Mennonite Board of Missions.  The scrapbooks appear to have been used in orienting new unit volunteers and in introducing unit work to visitors.

The collection consists of 20 photographic prints from Millard Osborne's time in voluntary service in Mathis, Texas from 1955 to 1957.
