This is a full-length portrait of Jakob Warkentin leaning on a high stand with his right arm. There is a fancy chair to his left and a treed backdrop behind him. He is wearing the full uniform of the Alternative Service men. Peter J. Sawatzky has written the following in German on the reverse: " Jakob Warkentin was my teacher in Grigorjewka and later my colleague in Leonidowka." This photograph shows Heinrich Warkentin and Peter Sawatzky posed on the steps in front of a building with many glass windows, amidst decorative tropical plants. The two men served in the phylloxera unit which was organized to help control insects in the vineyards of southern Crimea during their time in the Alternative Forestry Service.
