Photo is of a log cabin on the grounds of the Twilight Resort in Montreal River Harbour, Ontario. The cabin housed Mennonite Alternative Service men during World War II. Carved into one of the logs are the names of Alternative Service workers Wilmer Wagler (Shakespeare, Ontario), Emerson Wagler (Shakespeare, Ontario), Moses G. Mark Arden Schmucker Papers

  • US MCUSAA HM1/350
  • Sammlung
  • 1981-1987

These papers consist primarily of newspaper clippings, court records, and incoming correspondence pertaining to the 1982 conviction of Mennonite conscientious objector and Goshen college student Mark Arden Schmucker on charges of failing to register for the draft.

Researchers should note that this collection does not contain copies of all of the court records for Schmucker's case.  Rather, the court records in this collection are primarily briefs submitted to the court on Schmucker's behalf.
