8th Mennonite World Conference opening ceremonies
Two photos from the 8th Mennonite World Conference opening ceremonies on Sunday evening July 23, held in the Zuidhal (South Hall?) of the International Congress Centre in Amsterdam and attended by 4,000 people. On stage the Dutch choir and orchestra perform a cantata compiled from the words of Menno Simons with music written by a Dutch Mennonite. Only the soloist, near the piano at right, dressed in black, was not Mennonite. The stage, with a cross visible in the middle, was flanked on either side by banners showing the theme of the conference, "The Witness of the Holy Spirit," in English and in Dutch.
