This is a photo of a sod-turning at MB Communications. The caption, as found in MBH, April 5, 1985, p. 26, reads: A major event for Mennonite Brethren Communications, the media arm of the Manitoba MB Conference, occurred March 15 with the sod turning for a new studio and office building. The two-storey, 12,261 square feet building is to be erected at a cost of $885,000, $600,000 of which was raised in cash and pledges before construction began. The building is being put up on land which was donated to the conference by Henry W. Redekopp some years ago. In addition, over a thousand donars have contributed to the building, said MB Communications chairman Helmut Huebert, at the groundbreaking. The building is to be constructed on two floors, and will have 16 offices, two sound studios, one film studio, and audio-visual production facilities. The architect is Paul Janzen and the contractor is Marwest Construction of Winnipeg. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy in October. Mennonite Brethren Communications is a worldwide ministry in radio and television of Manitoba Mennonite Brethren, producing radio releases in German, Low German and Russian, and the family-oriented Third Story television series. Above, MBC chairman Helmut Huebert speaks to the group assembled for the groundbreaking. The site is located at Brazier St. and Riverton Ave., in Elmwood, just a block east of the MB Bible College.
