Bible class children with bundles, Paraguay

Children from a Bible class stand for a photo by a thatched roof, each holding a bundle. Several adults are among them, including an Indigenous Guarani woman named Amalia (in the wheelchair), who was a patient at the Kilometer 81 Leprosy Mission. Though only 26 inches tall, Amalia and her husband Nicasio Ayala regularly traveled to visit people in need, and she eventually helped start a Bible class in her home, later helping teach a Sunday School class that met every Sunday afternoon. Two other adults in the photo are likely Clara Schmidt (far right) and Dr. John Schmidt (tallest, back row). 1967 label: “Bible class (see March 1967 Wal for story)” [A reference to Mennonite Central Committe’s Women’s Activities Letter]
