William C. Voth and Matilda Kliewer Voth Papers

  • US BCMLA 00/MS.179
  • Sammlung
  • 1890-1986

This collection contains extensive correspondence between Voths and their relatives, Foreign Mission Board members, and fellow missionaries during the time period from 1910 to 1970s. Additional materials such as diaries and clippings give a good overview of mission work in China during the height of General Conference Mennonite Mission involvement in that country, 1910s to 1950. Additional correspondence and printed items touch on the search for mission fields in South America, Japan, and Taiwan, and some involvement with American Indian work among the Hopis.

  • 1890-1910

Consists entirely of photocopies made by or for Adolf J. Krehbiel when he was working on his biography of Jacob S. Krehbiel (his father?). It looks like most or all of the copies came from the General Conference Board of Missions files here. There is also a copy of The J. S. Krehbiel Story (1982).

Jacob B. Frey Papers

  • US BCMLA 00/MS.296
  • Sammlung
  • 1920

Consists only of his handwritten Hopi dictionary.

It appears that some, maybe most, of the handwriting in this volume is H. R. Voth's. The "notes on Hopi ceremonies" at the beginning is clearly Voth's handwriting.

The end of the volume contains  copies of a few letters written by J. B. Frey.

It's not clear whether the dictionary entries are in Voth's or Frey's handwriting.

Frey, Jacob B., 1875-1957

Reinhard D. Voth and Hilda Ediger Voth Papers

  • US BCMLA 00/MS.299
  • Sammlung
  • 1890-1990

The collection provides extensive documentation of the personal lives and careers of the Rein and Hilda through a broad range of documents. This includes official documents such as birth certificates, baptismal certificates, diplomas, teaching certificates, a draft card, and so forth. Limited correspondence provides some insights into their lives, but more detail is found in extensive clippings, and in Hilda’s case reminiscences and presentations, especially related to growing up on the mission field in Oklahoma. Rein collected historical advertisements and pamphlets related to his interest and work with road maintenance.
