A house on Bloodvein Reserve

Caption on back reads: "Where M.P.M. is building station. A house on the Bloodvein Indian Reserve. It appears to be a good size. However at the time I visited the large part was not in use at all due to a need of repairs. A family of five were living in the small right section of the house.. A village radio network called "oyako radio"

Used in the CM 6-44-4 with article. A village radio network called "oyako radio" (which means parent-child radio) is shown with a man operating it and a woman sitting beside it holding a book. At the end of every program one of the local Christians makes announcements and sometimes gives a short testimony. Perhaps that is what the woman was doing.

African house construction

This photo is of numerous Africans building a thatched-roof house [the photo was taken and described by John Esau?]. Description on the back reads: "On this picture the 5th grade boys are constructing storage space for empty barrels firewood, etc. This is the type of house the native lives in too. It is made of poles, sticks and red clay with a grass roof. We did not keep track of the hrs spent at this project but in 1/4 of the time they have one constructed for themselves."

An unidentified nurse holds a young boy

Not used in CM. An unidentified nurse holds a young boy as he stands in his crib. The photo comes from the Mennonite Board of Missions in Elkhart, Indiana. The caption on the back explains that medical service is freely given by Shanta Bhawan nurses, to all patients and especially to sick children, along with tender loving care. Supposedly there is a neg. but it is not with the photo.
