Fonds consists of letters sent from family and friends in South Russia to Peter Priess in Manitoba in the late 1920s and early 1930s. and photographs. The letters are mostly concerned with the day-to-day activities of the writers, as well as events that might hold personal significance for them or for Peter; they mention everything from daily work and birthdays or funerals, to mass travel to Moscow or passports and the arrests of male family members by Russian authorities. Also included are a number of postcards that were sent to Peter in the 1930s, and a songbook belonging to Anna Janzen, Peter’s maternal aunt.

This is a photograph of a well dressed couple, Heinrich Janz and Eva Janz (Willms), in dark clothing. She is wearing a very small bonnet or head piece. He is wearing a three piece suit, white shirt and bow-tie. He has a mustache and short beard. The chair Eva's hand is resting on has fringed upholstery. [Information supplied listed the woman in the photo as Maria Letkemann 1857-1894, Heinrich's first spouse. There was a twenty year age difference between Eva and Heinrich which makes it more probable that this woman is Eva. They were married in 1903 which is also a more probable date of this photograph.] Alexandrovsk is printed in bottom right corner.

There is an umbrella leaning against a rock between the two that are seated. One set of information identifies them as L>R Helena Janzen, Anna Janzen and Margaretha Janzen. A second list identifies them as L>R Katharina Janzen,Anna Janzen, Helena Janzen. The family had five daughters.

She is wearing a veil with flowers. She appears to have fair hair. Her left hand is in the crook of his right arm. He is wearing a dark, double-breasted morning suit, white shirt and white bow tie and ribbons with flowers on his left lapel.
This photograph is of seven young ladies resting under a large tree. They are students at the Maedchen Schule. All are wearing dark clothing and the youngest in front has a white apron over her dress. The names are Margareta Janzen and Lena Eckert in the front row; then unknown and Schroeder; back row M. Wiebe, Helena Unger (later a Mrs. J. Friesen) and Lena Dyck. Inscription on reverse states it was taken when "I" (unknown) was in the Maedchen Schule the first year.
