Colony members meeting

This photo is of a meeting of the members of the Fernheim Colony, Paraguay. It was held after the Chaco-War, fought from 1932 - 1935 between Paraguay and Bolivia. The banner on the back wall states: "The common good over self-interest! Believe and know: the begun community project is the future of our children." Among the people present was the daughter of General Jose F. Estigarribia, supreme commander of the Paraguayan military forces during the war. Used in the book" Garden in the Wilderness", by Edgar Stoesz p. 92.

Meeting on a ship

Explaining traits of beef cattle

This photo is of Robert Unruh explaining traits of good beef cattle at a field day at the Experimental Farm near Filadelfia, Fernheim Colony. Unruh worked as a development worker in the fields of agriculture and cattle-raising in the Mennonite colonies in the Paraguayan Chaco from 1951 to 1983. Used in the book" Garden in the Wilderness", by Edgar Stoesz p. 95.

Picking Tomatoes

This photo is of Robert G. Unruh and Heinrich Duerksen, Oberschulze of the Fernheim Colony, at the Experiment Farm near Filadelfia, Fernheim Colony, discussing the results of one day tomatoe picking. Unruh worked as development helper in the areas of agriculture and cattle raising in the Mennonite colonies in the Paraguayan Chaco from 1951 to 1983.
