School children in the village of Bek Bulatschi, Crimea, on the estate of Peter Heinrich Schroeder. Their teacher sits in the centre of the photograph. Abram Friesen is the small boy standing immediately to the left of the teacher.
Written on the blackboard is the name of the school and the date. The transliteration is: "Bek-Bulachinskoe nachal’noe uchilische, 1913 g., noiabria 6go." This translates as: "Elementary school of town of Bek-Bulak [or Bek-Bulachinsk], 1913, November the 6th." Written on back of the photograph: "Beck-Balatskoe (Crimea) (Bekbulatschi) elementary school, 1913 November. Abram Friesen immediately to left of teacher (at teacher's eye level)."
