Incoming and outgoing admistrative correspondence from the highest office of the American Mennonite Mission in India.  Correspondence includes communications between the mission board in the United States as well as Indian government officials.  These records also include ledger books listing the names of donors who provided financial sponsorship of Indian orphans.

Meeting minutes documenting the work of the committee charged with managing the finances, property, and human resources of the American Mennonite Mission in India.  It appears that executive committee and the managing committee are two names for the same body.  This series also includes an index to the meeting minutes (1939-1945, 1949-1950) and scattered correspondence and miscellaneous records.

Researchers should note that earlier minutes for the executive committee may be found in the American Mennonite Mission (Dhamtari, India) Secretary Correspondence and Subject Files (IV-17-004).

This series consists primarily of Incoming and outgoing correspondence to and from the office of the secretary, which appears to have replaced the office of the superintendent as the director of the mission's affairs.  Researchers will find in this series correspondence between the secretary and leaders of the Mennonite Board of Missions, Indian government officials, and non-Mennonite mission organizations.  Also present here are the secretary's record book (1905-1915), which contains the earliest executive committee and business meeting minutes as well as a number of subject files.

Secretaries of the American Mennonite Mission include J. N. Kauffman, Aldine Carpenter Brunk, and J. D. Graber (1937-1944).

A hodgepodge of letters that includes correspondence regarding missionaries' passport and residency issues, correspondence with Indian college students sponsored by the mission, letters from mission staff in Elkhart, Ind. circulated among the missionaries, and correspondence pertaining to clothing and bedding orders filled by various Mennonite sewing circles.

Records of the various mission outposts operated by the American Mennonite Mission, including Baloghahan, Dondi, Ghatula, Mohadi, and Sankra.  Also includes records pertaining to the girls' orphanage and the leper asylum.  Materials include reports, correspondence, and ledger books containing records of activities at the various stations.

Mennonite Church Indiana-Michigan Conference Mission Board Records

The Indiana-Michigan Conference Mission Board not only operated a number of domestic mission stations in Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky, but also supported the work of missionaries abroad.  In 1970, the mission board was dissolved and replaced by a mission committee.  These records are divided into several series.

Early records of the organization that evolved into the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities, the mission agency of the (old) Mennonite Church.  Materials include a brief history of early Mennonite mission organizations, a cash book, the 1892 annual meeting report, and an early minute book containing minutes for the annual and occasional meetings of the Mennonite Evangelizing Committee (1882-1892), the Mennonite Evangelizing Board of America (1892-1896), and the Mennonite Evangelizing and Benevolent Board (1896-1906).  In 1906, this board merged with the Mennonite Board of Charitable Homes and Missions to form the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities.

Records of a predecessor Mennonite mission agency to the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities, including incorporation documents, financial and insurance records, minutes (incomplete), correspondence, and a foreign missions manual.

Researchers should consult the series IV-001 and IV-002 for records regarding the previous incarnations of the Mennonite Evangelizing and Benevolent Board.  Series IV-001 contains the complete minutes of the Mennonite Evangelizing and Benevolent Board and its predecessor organizations.

Records for the entity within the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities responsible for screening and assigning personnel to staff the various home and foreign missions.  These records consist primarily of the various publications issued by the committee and the board (Mission Letter, Mission News Bulletin, Weekly Mission News, ), but aso includes meeting minutes, policies, reports, and other administrative documents.  Most missionary applications submitted to the committee may be found in series IV-06-01.2.

Records of a predecessor organization to the Mennonite Board of Missions, formed in error under the assumption that an organization incorporated in Ohio was required in order to acquire and manage property in Ohio.  This organization, therefore should not be understood as a competing organization to the Mennonite Evangelizing and Benevolent Board and its predecessor organizations. Records include incorporation documents and by-laws, legal documents pertaining to the transfer of property, correspondence, and annuity contracts.
