Genealogical Research Files

Forms, collected research materials and historical documents, and conrrespondence pertaining to Silas Hertzler's book, The Hertzler - Hartzler Family History, first published in 1952.  Researchers will note that the correspondence extends past Hertzler's death in 1975 because Hertzler's daughter, Charlotte, continued to receive and respond to genealogical correspondence.

Art and Exhibitions

This series primarily documents Sylvia Gross Bubalo's solo and group exhibitions. Also included in this series are her published works of art created for Mennonite Publishing House, some original sketches, and an inventory of her artwork, as well as artwork she possessed by Vladimir Bubalo and others . Researchers should note that the Mennonite Historical Library in Goshen, Ind. holds nearly all of Sylvia Gross Bubalo's paintings and maintains a file on each one.

Correspondence

In this series, researchers will find incoming and outgoing letters, cards, emails and small pieces of artwork. This series contains primarily personal and family correspondence, although some of her correspondents discussed her creative work. Some of the incoming correspondence provides insight into Sylvia's rich spiritual life and prayer practices.

Vladimir Bubalo Papers

Documents pertaining to or created by Vladimir Bubalo (1934-1989), Sylvia Gross Bubalo's husband.  Materials include correspondence pertaining to his conscientious objector status and his art, love notes exchanged with Sylvia Gross Bubalo, photographs of his paintings, information on his exhibits and work as an artist and graphic designer, selected sketches, drawings, and graphic design work, and materials from his memorial service in 1989.

Photographs and Videos

Photographs depict Sylvia, her family, friends, time spent at Goshen College, and someof her and Vladimir's artwork. This series also includes photographs of her guest appearance on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and a VHS video cassette of the episode. Researchers should note that the Mennonite Historical Library in Goshen, Indiana holds nearly all of Slyvia Gross Bubalo's paintings and maintains a file on each one.
