Putative Suderman farmstead on the Nechako River

This is a photo of the assumed farmstead of the Suderman family on the Nechako River, Braeside community west of Vanderhoof. On the left there is a pile of lumber and a grindstone. On the right is a log building with two horses hitched to a wagon beside it. In the background is the Nechako River.

This is a photo of the Vanderhoof bridge to the north side of the Nechako River, where a rough road to the west led to the Braeside community some eight miles away.

Bridge across the Nechako River

This is a photo of the bridge across the Nechako River at the N. E. corner of Vanderhoof. On the bridge are two horses pulling a wagon and a buggy with two horses. In the foreground on the right is a cone shaped structure made of logs. The bridge was built in 1916 and replaced in 1948.

Sunday church service

This is a photo of the congregation gathered outside the tent used for Sunday service. This tent was provided by Johann P. Suderman for this purpose and was located on the Suderman property. There is the front end of an automobile visible on the left.

Homesteaders arrive at Vanderhoof

This is a photo of the chartered passenger rail car and homesteaders presumably having arrived at Vanderhoof for their new frontier experience. The group consists of men, women, children and dogs. The cluster of women on the left includes Dora Suderman (10 years of age) in the light dress, her older sister Margaret Suderman (16 years old) In dark coat and hat and next to her Annie Suderman (age 12) in a light dress.

This is a photo of a hay field with trees in the background. Two large white tents are beneath the trees. On the right of the photo are a horse, grazing, a wagon and several piles of hay. In the book "Personal Diary of Peter Neufeld 1917 - 1918 this photo is described as a hay meadow near Engen rented by Warketin-Voth-Neufeld.

This is a photo of a large tent set up among trees. It is one of the two tents belonging to Johann P. Suderman. This one appears to be used as accommodation during construction of more permanent wooden structures.

Grand Trunk Pacific freight car #311461

This is a photo of Grand Trunk Pacific freight car #311461 sitting on its tracks alongside of which have been unloaded a variety of unidentified articles. A man dressed in dark pants, jacket and cap is standing with his hand on some waist -high contrivance. There are several more cars on the track and hydro poles running along side.
