This series contains the Family Life Ministry materials of the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries (MBCM) from 1972 to 1990. Key individuals in this organization during this time were Ross Bender, Beulah Kauffman, David Helmuth, Frances Greaser, and Clare Schumm.

The records include a number of topics such as domestic violence and homosexuality, correspondence, seminars, meetings, audio-visual materials, and congregational responses. These are all arranged alphabetically.

Zehr (1971-1972), Ross T. Bender (1972-1974), Harold E. Bauman (1974-1977), Gordon Zook (1978-1989), and Everett Thomas (1990-1997).  Researchers should note that the records are subdivided into three chronological periods (1971-1979, 1980-1989, and 1990-1997).  Files in the first two chronological periods are organized alphabetically; files in the last period are filed chronologically and contain little incoming correspondence.

Materials are filed by fiscal year, with budgets, financial statements, and audits for the same year housed in the same folder.  Most folder titles are incomplete and do not indicate the full contents of the folder.

Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries Commission on Congregational Stewardship Records

Correspondence and subject files for the commission created to promote stewardship initiatives in Mennonite conferences and congregations.

The first two boxes contain materials related to the Commission on Congregational Stewardship, the Churchwide Stewardship Council, and "A Call to Faithful Stewardship," a denominational initiative adopted as part of Vision '95 at the 1985 Mennonite Church General Assembly in Ames, Iowa.

Boxes 3 to 5 contain correspondence related to visits with Mennonite conferences and congregations. Files are arranged alphabetically by congregation and divided by conference.

Boxes 5 (second half) and 6 contain administrative files created between 1992 and 2000, including minutes, reports, correspondence, congregational resources, and Mark Vincent's files related to The Giving Project.

Planning and evaluation files for Mennonite Youth Conventions held biennially  in conjunction with the Mennonite Church's General Assemblies.  Records include a brief overview of the history of youth conventions (1960s - 2001) and fairly complete files for the St. Louis and Nashville Youth Conventions in 1999 and 2001, including program booklets, song books, CDs of worship music, and planning committee records.  Scattered documentation for conventions between 1991 and 1997 may also be found in these files.

These minutes and reports document the work of the governing body of an (old)  Mennonite Church entity that provided financial services and stewardship resources to North American Mennonites.  Some correspondence is included in the early reports and minutes.  This series includes records of the regular meetings as well as special meetings called for specific purposes.

Researchers should note that the more modern records in this series (circa 1970 and forward) consist of meeting dockets.

Mennonite Mutual Aid Association Civilian Public Service Demobilization Records

This series consists primarily of questionnaires returned by Civilian Public Service volunteers and providing information about marital status and family life,  health after service, and their plans for work or education after service.  This series also includes correspondence regarding the availability of loans for volunteers (about $75,000 in loans was available) and correspondence about timber land open for settlement by volunteers.

A small colleciton of assorted materials associated with the preliminary investigation of a denominational mutual aid entity. The collection largely consists of questionnaires to prominent men of the (old) Mennonite Church regarding the need for a program to provide aid in the event of property loss, illness and death. Other materials include the 1945 articles of incorporation of Mennonite Mutual Aid Inc., correspondence, reports, and miscellaneous materials.
