Worship service in Tao church, Orchid Island, Taiwan. Four Tao men and Glen Graber (right) stand and sing at the front of the building, one holding an accordion and another holding a book, while many Tao women sit on the ground looking toward them. 1955 label: “Although their knowledge of the Bible is very limited, they know quite a few songs and love to sing. An accordian (sic) which we carried along helped to boost the singing and to teach new songs.”

Mary Burkhard addresses the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities conference

Two photos (both the same size) from the conference sponsored by the Board of Missions and Charities of the (Old) Mennonite Church (the 50th annual meeting). In the photo used in the CM 4-25-1, Mary Burkhard addresses the conference from behind the pulpit. She and her husband were the first missionaries to go out under the program of the Mennonite church, going to India in 1900. Seated on the platform behind her are: (l-r) J. B. Martin (vice-pres of the board), J. D. Graber, P.A. Friesen. In the 2nd photo (not used in the CM) a male quartet sings at the conference. Members of the quartet are: (l-r) David Shank, Albert Buckwalter, Ralph Wade, Ralph Buckwalter (hidden).
