unddated document to "Dear Cornelius"

Undated document to “Dear Cornelius” (4 double-space pages), very possibly unsent; sender not explicit, but quite obviously by H. S. Bender, especially in light of the letter of February 25, 1948, above; date of writing could have been June or July 1949: In cleaning up his desk [?? before leaving for Europe in June or July 1949?] had come across your comments on John Horsch in January 20, 1948 The Mennonite, which friends had pointed out to Bender “while I was in Europe last year” [?? calendar year or academic year ??]...; continuing, the letter is a document charging Krahn--using soft and “dear brother” kind of language, but nonetheless accusing Krahn--with unbrotherly treatment especially of Horsch, but also more broadly in the course of Krahn’s scholarship; while Bender’s accusations are explicit and clear, Bender surely perceived his larger purpose to be putting a stop to innuendo, scholarly attacks that became personal, and such like, and even larger, the purpose of bringing Mennonite scholars of the various branches together--as Bender said he had been attempting in Mennonite Research Fellowship, inclusion in producing Mennonite Quarterly Review, and other such endeavors; while the document is clearly accusatory, it also has a strong tone of pleading; certainly it is an interesting piece of evidence for studying the legendary antipathy between H. S. Bender and Krahn and studying Bender’s understanding that he had a vision not at all limited by “Old” or MC Mennonite boundaries.
