Large crowd gathered for food relief distribution, Nantou County, Taiwan

A large crowd of men, women, and children, gathered for food relief distribution in the street of a village in Nantou County, Taiwan. Harold Becker, in white, stands at center. Buildings, a truck, and a bus can be seen in the background.

Original label: “1). Food parcel distribution on January 7th and 8th at Wu Hsi, District office for a number of mountain villages in NanTou county. A large crowd of folk awaited the arrival of the distribution team and the trucks carrying the food parcels. This food was given by the American Government.”

Marking a lost grave

Johann Funk of Silberfeld homesteaded Section NE-23-1-1-W and was buried on this homestead. Many years later the land he was buried in was replaced with cultivated farm land and his exact burial location was lost. This photograph shows his 4th generation great-granddaughter Cora marking the approximate location of his burial.

This marker made of sticks indicates roughly where homesteader Johann Funk was buried. His exact burial location was lost when the land was turned into cultivated farm land. It is believed that there were many other family members buried in the area but that information was never documented.
