Marcus Lind speaker: <p style="margin-left:.2pt;"> Talked about being a teacher in different schools, and at the Portland Mennonite Mission as Pastor for 6 years. Then he was asked to find a property that the church could build a church school on. He talks about looking in different places and settling on the location we now have. He talked about the problem of finding the best place to drill a well, cutting down trees to build the school house. They learned that a certain school house was no longer in use and WMS could use the lumber to build our own school house. Because of this, the original school building cost $4000.00. This talk was 9:00 to 9:34. My currant wife who is Katie Yoder Lind is here with me today. May Larrew was a first cousin to Salome Lind. May's husband was Frank Larrew. He died in 1953. May was born a Detwiller and she and Salome were first cousins. May was a rather fragile woman, but when Frank died, May became a different woman! <p style="margin-left:.2pt;"> Frank Larrew owned 160 acres and bought 320 acres of timber land, which was cheap then. May had a lot of the timber cut and had a new house built out of cedar wood for herself. Frank Larrew had put in a water wheel to get electricity and May found a way to bring it to the house. People in the area had built a church which was a community church. Eventually it became a Mennonite church. Now it is back to a Commun­ity church. <p style="margin-left:.2pt;"> May died at the age of 103 years. Lloyd, James & Naoma were children of Frank & May. Before May died, she made out a will to will the Slick Rock Falls to WMS. (The will has long since been broken.) It eventually went back to the Forestry Service. May had become a very good business woman after her husband died and became wealthy from the timber her husband had purchased. In her last years, she became quite weak and couldn't think clearly. </td> </tr> </tbody></table> B. side is blank.
