David Bechtel Family Histories and Broadsides

A small set of personal papers that consist of handwritten Bechtel and Hartmann family histories and a collection of broadsides.  Also includes a photocopy of a handwritten German hymn perhaps written by Abraham A. Meyer and given the English title "Life's Great Balance."  English translations are available for the family histories and the hymn.

Joseph Bowman Papers

The collection consists of an original leather-bound notebook belonging to Joseph Bowman, documenting among other things some of his travels. Along with this notebook is a typed transcript of these travel reports dated 1975.

Michael Bergey Papers

The collection consists of a book filled with legal descriptions of agreements recorded by Michael Bergey from 1834 to 1840. The other half of the book is described as a day book by Benjamin Kropp dated April 8, 1833 in Wilmot, Ontario. This latter section records a number of business transactions.

Brubacher Family Correspondence

Six letters in German script from members of the Brubacher family residing in Ontario and Pennsylvania.  Correspondents include Johannes and Susanna Brubacher, Jacob and Maria Brubacher, and Heinrich Brubacher.  ALl of the letters have either been transcribed or translated.  Among the letters are also several photocopied German hymns with translations into English.

Christian Yoder Records

An "Erb-Schrift" providing dates of birth and death, when applicable, for the wives and descendants of Christian Yoder (1790-1846). A transcription of this hand-written document is available. Additionally, this collection includes a letter written in 1845 from Christian Yoder (1790-1846) to his son, also named Christian Yoder regarding the state of the Amish Church.

"Long" Christian Zook Papers 1820-1850

Photocopies of documents, primarily correspondence, to and from "Long" Christian Zook, an Amish minister in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, who led his congregation away from the larger Amish church in 1849.  Some documents have been transcribed and translated into English.

Benjamin Eby Papers

Peter and Martin Burkholder Correspondence and Will

A small set of personal papers belonging to father and son Mennonite bishops in Virginia.  Materials include a photocopy and transcript of Peter Burkholder's will (1813), a photocopy and English translation of a letter from Christian and Anna Kauffman (1842), a letter from Peter Johns and Johannes (John) Greider, with English translation (1846), two letters from John M. Brenneman to Martin Burkholder (1853, 1858), and three letters from Daniel Brenneman to Martin Burkholder (1859).  The collection also includes a photocopy of a notebook containing information about the death of Martin Burkholder, but the copy is of poor quality.

Joash Yoder Copybook and Correspondence

A small personal collection consisting of an arithmetic copybook and two letters associated with an Amish Mennonite farmer and teacher originally from Mifflin Co., Penn.  Yoder later moved to Wayne Co., Ohio.  The copybook carried the date 1835, and the letters are dated 1845 (from Shem Zook) and 1861 (from Joash Yoder's son, Eli L. Yoder).  Also included with this collection is a note regarding German students who attended the German school in "Irishtown" in 1841-1842.

Barbara E. Yoder Attendance Certificates

Peter Nissley Correspondence

These papers consist of one letter from Peter Nissley to Jacob Schneider (in German, with English translation) describing the health of his neighbors and arranging a meeeting among Jacob Schneider, Amos Herr, and himself, and twelve letters in English from John M. Brenneman to Peter Nissley discussing the welfare of the church.

The collection consists of early Mennonite documents collected by Mrs. Lester Snyder and their English translations. The documents include various baptismal certificates and letters from Langnau, Switzerland and Stark County, Ohio. Among the names listed in these documents are Christina Schwartz, Christian Schwartz, Ulrich Schwarz, Heinrich Sommer, Anna Barbara Wyss, Menonit Egli, Anna Haghegger, and Johannes Wyss.
