Two bikes lean against a thatched house, the home of Nivaclé people in the Yalve Sanga settlement, Paraguay. A ladder and another thatched structure can be seen. 1963 label: “This shot was taken at Yalwe Sanka were Chulupies are settling. Note their bicycles leaning against the primitive house.” [sic]

Nivacle workers build a church, Paraguay

Indigenous Nivaclé workers pose for a photograph while working on a building they will use for both a church and a school. Several children appear to be helping with the work. Unlaid bricks can be seen around the building, and wooden frames for doors and windows stick out several feet above the most recent layer of brick. Paraguay. 1964 label: “Chulupi Indians working on their church. The building will be used as both church and school. The Indians decided to build it before they went ahead with putting up houses for themselves.”

Three Indigenous men assemble horse-drawn garden cultivators, cultivators which were collected and shipped by the Ontario Mennonites around 1963. Paraguay. A building and a large pile of bricks can be seen in the background. 1964 label: “Indians assemble horse drawn garden cultivators. These cultivators were collected and shipped by the Ontario Mennonites last year. More cultivators could be used.”
