A small set of personal papers documenting the education and work of an editor and photojournalist for the Mennonite Publishing House (Scottdale, Penn.).  The bulk of the materials consist of completed surveys about the Mennonite Publishing House's Words of Cheer children's magazine.  The surveys report the opinions of elementary school readers in the United States and Canada.  Other materials include an autobiographical essay, correspondence, materials pertaining to his undergraduate and graduate degrees, and photographic negatives depicting a Sunday School Convention at Eastern Mennonite College (1965), Mennonite General Conference (1965 and 1967), the Sunday School Centennial at West Liberty, Ohio (1963), the Sunday School Centennial at Masontown, Penn. (1963), and a "Russian visit" (1965).

Elizabeth M. Yoder Woodiwiss Papers

This collection chronicles the early life of Elizabeth M. Yoder Woodiwiss (1889-1986), who homesteaded in North Dakota from 1907-1910. Her diaries (photocopies of originals) record her experiences as a homesteader, as well as a few years after she returned to Pennsylvania.  Articles about Elizabeth are also in the collection, alongside her own recollections. There are also photographs depicting her as a homesteader and later in life, as well as photographs of the homesteading community.

Records pertaining to a ministry for Mennonite college and university students and young adults in the Philadelphia area.  The Philadelphia office seemed to have coordinated work with area Mennonite student fellowships, offered a Mennonite presence to area college campuses, organized workshops, and assisted with tasks for the general Student and Young Adult Services Ministry.  Records include correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, seminar papers, and a cashbook.

Personal and pastoral papers of a pastor and bishop of the (old) Mennonite Church who served primarily in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania.  Durr also served as the first moderator of the Southwest Pennsylvania Mennonite Conference. He also served as moderator of the General Conference Committee and the preliminary General Conference in 1897.

Durr's papers are divided into

Joseph Allen Hooley and Catherine Hooley Family Papers

Joseph Allen Hooley was the son of John C. Hooley and Elizabeth Hertzler Hooley, and his wife, Catherine (Hooley) Hooley was the daughter of David K. Hooley and Fannie (Hertzler) Hooley.  Joseph and Catherine Hooley moved from Mifflin County, Penn. to West Liberty, Ohio in 1904.  Both were members of the (old) Mennonite Church and appear to have made a living farming.

This small set of family papers consists primarily of land records (indentures, deeds, etc., mostly from Mifflin County, Penn.).  Other materials include family account books, farm records, autograph books, estate documents, and a scrapbook containing clippings of poems.

Ammon Sala Diary

A transcribed, typewritten copy of a diary kept by Ammon Sala, a Mennonite conscientious objector who was conscripted for military service in World War I. Sala left for Camp Lee on October 4, 1917 and was not released until December 1918. Sala's diary entries are very brief, describing one or two daily activities.

The diary was transcribed by Mark Moyer. The original diary remains in the possession of Helen Lenda.
