Abram B. Kolb Papers 1866-1923

Papers of a friend and associate of John F. Funk who served as assistant editor / editor in chief of the Herald of Truthfrom 1886 to 1904.  Kolb edited a number of other Mennonite periodicals, was active in the Sunday school movement, and served as president of the Mennonite Evangelizing and Benevolent Board.  He married John F. Funk's daughter, Phoebe, in 1893.

Kolb's papers are divided into two series:

Daniel H. Coffman served as a deacon at Prairie Street Mennonite Church (1893-1899), Olive Mennonite Church (1899-1904), and Clinton Brick Mennonite Church (1904 - 1941). This collection consists primarily of Coffman's correspondence to his brother and sister in Virginia as well as his daughter in Indiana, and contains information regarding church conflicts from 1898 to 1903.  Also in this collection are histories of the Daniel H. Coffman family and the Samuel H. Eldridge family, as well as a photograph of the Eldridge family circa 1890.

Rupe, and a scrapbook of photographs and correspondence presented to her by missionaries and mission board staff upon her retirement.

Select papers pertaining to Thomas's service on the Goshen, Indiana City Council, Mennonite participation in Indiana local, regional, and state politics, and Thomas's work as executive secretary of the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries.  Includes photographs, oaths of office, campaign finance records, campaign strategy notes, and two educational DVDs, entitled "Mennonites and Political Power" (Parts I and II).  The collection also includes a DVD and outline of Thomas's Goshen College convocation address entitled "It Turns Out I'm Not a Pacifist" (January 2011).

Papers of a prominent Mennonite family in Elkhart, Ind.  G. L. Bender was a teacher and postmaster.  He served as the first treasurer of the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities and as a deacon at Prairie Street Mennonite Church.  Elsie Kolb Bender was a homemaker and mother of seven children, including Harold Stauffer Bender.

The papers consist primarily of correspondence to and from various members of the Bender family and are divided into the following series:
