The papers are divided into six categories: 1) Personal - correspondence, notebooks, and presentations; 2) Educational - Bethel and MBS; 3) Subject Files; 4) MCC; 5) General Conference; and 6) Prairie View. His correspondence is extremely limited, and most of the personal papers consist of notes and drafts for various papers, presentations, and sermons. Course materials from Bethel are sparse, but very extensive notes and papers are in the collection from MBS, where it is interesting to note that with the exception of a couple courses with Donovan Smucker and S. F. Pannabecker, he took almost entirely courses with professors from MBS’s partner institution, Bethany (Brethren) Seminary.

There are a few letters related to his work with MCC and GCMC, but most of these materials consist of reports, papers and proceedings from the many conferences held in the 1950s and 1960s. A few of these are annotated. Files from his work with these institutions, as is also the case with Prairie View, likely remained almost entirely with his employers. Even the CPS and MCC files from his work in the 1940s are limited, but they contain a few folders of original and personal materials of more interest and perhaps uniqueness.

The collection contains personal materials from all three creators, including school transcripts and diplomas, school papers, baptismal certificates and other documentation of their early family life. However, the most extensive personal materials are the writings of Helen and Amelia and the correspondence of Amelia and her family.

The other major category of materials in the collection is family history. This includes several generations of correspondence of Amelia’s family, especially of her many relatives in Germany who wrote to Amelia’s mother Elizabeth Ellenberger, her Aunt Selma Ellenberger, and to Amelia herself, covering a period of over a century. The family history materials, in addition to these primary source documents, includes extensive genealogical research materials. Published genealogies, primarily collected by Adam, relate to many branches of his ancestors, especially on his maternal, Becker, side. He and Amelia both compiled numerous family charts and histories.

Includes two Bibles, one German and one English. Both in poor condition. The German one contains family information. Also several photographs, some related to Bethel College and Tabor Mennonite Church.

Tapes of interview with Helen Janzen Hirschler conducted by Leland and Bertha Harder and Mariam Penner Schmidt, Aug. 21, 1985, about her early life in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, her student years at Bethel College, and later life in Emporia. (Not clear if there was just one interview or a series of them. There are 3 tapes. All have been copied to DVD.)

Consists mostly of financial papers, with some correspondence, school papers, family history papers, Leonhard's passport and naturalization papers.

Papers include travel journals and diaries for trips to Africa, Jerusalem, Michigan, China, Europe, Finland, Tahiti, India and other destinations, 1950-1988, and other engagement calendars; letters in German to Emma Ewy from her mother, ca. 1925-1935; letters from Martha Berger to Mrs. Amalia Ewy and Emma Ewy, ca. 1950-1955; photographs, color photographs, color slides, postcards; transcripts, diploma, teaching certificate, passports. Books, Arlington, KS high school yearbooks, Bibles, hymnals.

Contains some financial papers, and a handwritten family register or church record book (both original and photocopy) which covers many Swiss Volhynian families, not just his own family. Not clear whether this is some kind of congregational record book or his own personal compilation.

Correspondence with family members 1915-1918. English translations of most or all of the letters are included.
