John M. Brenneman Papers

A small set of personal papers belonging to a prominent 19th century Ohio Mennonite bishop and author.  Papers consist primarily of correspondence, but also include a small amount of sermon records and notes, and account book, and other miscellaneous materials.

Assorted papers associated with Fannie Baumgartner Kauffman's (1867-1936) parents, Johannes (John) Baumgartner (1823-1904, emigrated from Alsace in 1856) and Verena (Fannie) Amstutz Baumgartner (1829-1873, emigrated from Alsace circa 1855).  These include manuscripts of song lyrics, genealogical information, church letters, copy books, an account book / weather diary, and correspondence.  The collection also contains a few items created by Fannie Baumgartner Kauffman and her husband, Henry M. Kauffman, including handwritten prayers, ephemera, and correspondence.  Typewritten transcriptions are available for many of the German handwritten documents.

Michael Bergey Papers

The collection consists of a book filled with legal descriptions of agreements recorded by Michael Bergey from 1834 to 1840. The other half of the book is described as a day book by Benjamin Kropp dated April 8, 1833 in Wilmot, Ontario. This latter section records a number of business transactions.

Photocopies of miscellanous documents pertaining to Amish and Amish Mennonite communities in Iowa.  Materials include 19th century correspondence, anecdotes, a list of members of the Amish Church at Lower Deer Creek, a list of clergy and congregations in the Western Amish-Mennonite Conference (later the Iowa-Nebraska Mennonite Conference), a program from the dedication of the Deer Creek marker, and other miscellaneous materials.

Papers of a Mennonite minister (ordained 1884) and bishop (ordained 1908) in the Fulton County District of Ohio.  Includes Bible conference teaching notes and outlines, sermon notes, various manuscripts, 48 cloth Bible conference teaching charts, 12 paper Bible conference teaching charts, and miscellaneous materials.

Joash Yoder Copybook and Correspondence

A small personal collection consisting of an arithmetic copybook and two letters associated with an Amish Mennonite farmer and teacher originally from Mifflin Co., Penn.  Yoder later moved to Wayne Co., Ohio.  The copybook carried the date 1835, and the letters are dated 1845 (from Shem Zook) and 1861 (from Joash Yoder's son, Eli L. Yoder).  Also included with this collection is a note regarding German students who attended the German school in "Irishtown" in 1841-1842.

The collection includes Elbing-Ellerwald church record books kept by Andreas as elder, and a large collection of sermons. The authorship of most of the sermons is not indicated, but it seems likely that most of them were written by Andreas except where otherwise indicated.

A small set of personal papers that consist of handwritten Bechtel and Hartmann family histories and a collection of broadsides.  Also includes a photocopy of a handwritten German hymn perhaps written by Abraham A. Meyer and given the English title "Life's Great Balance."  English translations are available for the family histories and the hymn.

Miscellaneous documents accumulated by Harry Symensma, a Mennonite immigrant from Balk (Friesland, Netherlands) and member of the Mennonite (Dunkard) church in Union Township (presumably Elkhart County), Indiana, and his son, Henry Symensma, of New Paris, Indiana.  Materials include property tax and other reciepts, real estate assessments, a letter from John F. Funk offering condolences to Henry Symensma, and Dutch militia documents.
