This fonds consists predominantly of materials concerning settlement work through the Canada Colonization Association, the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization, and the Mennonite Settlement Board. The materials are mostly correspondence and reports. Additional materials include correspondence, minutes and reports concerning various Mennonite conferences, relief work through the Mennonite Central Committee and the Emergency Relief Board, and the German English Academy, as well as sermons and some personal correspondence. Materials are both typewritten and handwritten.

This fonds contains the diary of Jakob Guenther starting on the 16. Jan. 1945 when he was conscripted into the German army. It continues during the period that he was a Russian prisoner of war in Romania from the end of the war till 19 February 1946. The last entry is dated 20. Sept 1947 written in Canada, expressing his longing to be reunited with his wife and daughters, or at least to have confirmation of their well-being.

The material in this fonds consists of German handwritten manuscripts by Peter Heese and materials about his Heese relatives, namley uncle Peter Heese (1852-1911) and great-grandfather Heinrich Heese (1787-1868). The manscripts include novels and memoirs. The memoirs depicts Mennonite life in the city of Ekaterinoslav including the Mennonite church, the Russian revolution, a history of the Heese family, and Peter Heese's own expereines in Russia, immigration to North America, and settlement in Canada . Information about important Mennonite figures such as mill owner Johann Thiessen and the mayor of the Ekaterinoslav, Johann Esau, also appear in the material. Some of the documents have been fully translated by Jake K. Wiens, and others have summaries. This material is important when studying Mennonite life in urban centres, the Heese family and other prominent Mennonites of the area. The material is also unique because of the literary works produced by Heese. His eye for detail extends into the historical accounts as well as his literary works. Also included is Heese's obituary and ancestor chart.

Walter and Linda Jansen fonds

This fonds consists of memoirs written by Walter Jansen regarding his ancestors, life growing up in Russia until the evacuation to Germany in 1943. Linda's writings consist of diaries and memoirs starting in 1946 when the family arrived in Holland, life in Paraguay and in Winnipeg until 2007. Walter's writings and the early portions of Linda's diaries (1946-1957) are reproduced and edited in the book Our Stories by Walter and Linda Jansen, translated by Walfried Jansen, 2010. The materials give a firsthand account of life during a time of rapid and drastic changes for the Mennonite people who fled from the Ukraine, and eventually settled in Paraguay and Canada. Most people in Walter's position and his age did not survive the war.

This collection consists of correspondence received by Peter Hoeppner (1825-1907) after he immigrated to Canada. Writers from Russia include Isaac Dyck, Joahann Hildebrand, Kornelius Hildebrand, Bernhard Hoeppner, Peter Klassen, and Heinrich Penner. Letters from people in Canada include Aganetha Heppner, Cornelius Sawatzki, Peter Sawatzki, and Ludwig Witte. A few land assessment records are also included.

Jacob Esau fonds

This fonds were includes a diary by Jacob Esau detailing the formation and challenges of the Alexanderkrone Zentralschule, and a hair wreath made to commemorate Esau's deceased family members. The materials are central to the understanding the early history of the Zentralschule. Portions of the diary were transcribed by Katharina Janzen and published in the newspaper Der Bote in October and November 1971. This together with the reports written by Esau in the periodical Friedensstimme were central to Ted Regehr's book For Everything a Season: A history of the Alexanderkrone Zentralschule. The hair wreath is a unique item that must be rare in Mennonite circles.

This fonds consists of diaries written by David Janzen after having lived in Canada for over 20 years. Janzen writes about daily activities in the family and on the farm. The diaries start in 1947 and continue until 1966, four years before his death. At the back of some of the journals are addresses of friends and relatives and newspaper clippings of interest to Janzen at the time (i.e health matters, how to deal with insects, etc.)

The material in this fonds consists of the diaries of Jacob P. Janzen which span 35 years and three countries. The diary documents life in Russia, the upheaval during and after the revolution, immigration and pioneer life in Mexico, immigration and settlement in Alberta. It details life on the farm, church life including sermons and funerals, as well as his own frustrations with romance and laments some of his sinful behavior. Also included are music and school notebooks created by his niece Katharina Wall and her father Cornelius C. Wall. The diary 1916-1925 has been translated by Edward Enns and is included.

This fonds consists of the journals which record the life activities and periodic reflections of a man who at age 20 began to write his life story and then continued to write periodic reports and reflection for the rest of his life. The journal begins while living in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, continues in Germany and Paraguay and ends in Canada. Both the original German journal books and an English translation are included in this fonds. The journals contain observations about the establishment and development of life in Paraguay by a group of Mennonite refugee immigrants, including their social, religious and economic situations.
