Minutes and committee member correspondence and subject files.

A small set of records documenting the work of the following committees:  Civilian Service Investigating Committee, Educational Study Committee, Reorganization Study Committee, Life Insurance Study Committee, Committee on Audio-Visual Aids, Resolutions Committee, Topics, Committee, Coordination of Field Services Committee, Coordination of Research Projects Committee, Committee on Christian Standard of Living, Managing Committee, Periodicals Study Committee, Committee to Study Retirement of Church Workers, and Committee to Study the Place of Women on the Church Board.

These records consist of the formally published material produced before and after the biennial meetings of the Mennonite Church General Assembly.  These include programs, reports, proceedings, delegate workbooks, onsite newspapers, and other supplemental publications.  Reports and proceedings found in the Mennonite Church General Assembly publications provide an overview of the state of the Mennonite Church, including its finances, and the issues of most concern to its leaders.  Later General Assemblies also featured youth conventions.

Other materials in these records include the minutes and some working files of assembly planning committees.  These are not available for all years of the General Assembly. 

The General Assemblies are designated by their location rather than their number.

A hodgepodge of documentation, including the incorporation documents that change the name of the corporation from "Mennonite General Conference" to "Mennonite Church."  Also includes proposed goals and priorities of the denomination, a demographic study of the membership of churchwide boards and committees, and a VHS cassette and packet of information about the integration of the General Conference Mennonite Church and the (old) Mennonite Church.

Meeting minutes and dockets of the executive body of the (old) Mennonite Church.  These documents provide an excellent overview of the important issues facing the denomination and responses to them.

Researchers should note that this is not a complete set of minutes or dockets.  The minutes are incomplete  from the mid 1980s forward.  Researchers are advised to seek missing minutes in the docket of the following meeting.  Dockets first appear in 1977, and there are no dockets for meetings held in 1988 or 1989.

Memo is a monthly newsletter and set of mailings sent from the General Board and its agencies to Mennonite pastors and congregational leaders.
