A scenic view

This is a photograph of a mountain valley showing the river in the background and some buildings in the right forefront. There is an attractive white building which stands out among the trees, which needs to be identified. This scene was possibly the site where the Mennonite men worked in the Alternative Service in Russia before and during World War I.

A street in Batum

This is a Russian post card, showing Tiflisskaja Street in Batum. There are some trees on the left and a railway track alongside a fence, with building in the background. This post card also appears on page 99 of Mennonite Alternative Service in Russia by Lawrene Klippenstein and Jacob Dick.

Aaron Tiessen in Mennonite Alternative Service in Russia

This is a portrait of Aaron Tiessen in the uniform of the Red Cross Alternative Service men in Russia in World War I. He is sitting at the opening of a studio rock formation with his arms folded across his chest. This photograph also appears in Mennonite Alternative Service in Russia by Lawrence Klippenstein and Jacob Dick on page 120. There are two copies of this photograph, one with Elfrieda T's name on it and the other, which has one corner ripped off, notes Aaron Tiessen, Winnipeg.
