His’l Sec’y, Goshen...”, April 23, 1958 [from Ferguson Missouri; penned on lined paper]: was Th.D. student at Concordia Seminary; handwriting is in English but barely legible and evidently burdened with jargon; began by asking if “Men’s have an ethos or a pious [?? word unclear ??]; ... that Mennonites could make a greater contribution to society if we communicated more of who we are, but “I don’t even know myself”....

Trying to get information about refugees in north Syria. Government authorities have done little for this group. Two Presbyterian missionaries report 120 Mennonite including one nurse. Villagers treated them well but the officials did not. They were loaded into several trucks which headed off into open country. They were advised to scatter into smaller groups but they did not want to do this. Only the first page of this letter exists.
