Wiens family diary

This series consist of a photocopy of the Wiens family diary and some loose pages. This series is divided into three main sections. The first section is an arithmetic book that was started by teacher Peter Wiens (1770-) in 1787 and is the oldest part of the book. In it Peter Wiens has numerous charts and equations where he lists units of measurement, additions, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions, weights and currency, conversion of Prussian currency, calculation of interest and algebra style mathematical problems. Each mathematical page is embellished with elaborate and colorful fraktur art. Some pages have Latin language titles.

The second section was written by Jacob Wiens (1816-1888) a nephew of Peter Wiens (1770-) through his brother Jacob (1767-1845). This portion is a compilation of various writings, some of which have been copied from other sources. Materials include stories such as Cholera in Rosengart, and Election of Jacob W. Kronsthal as teacher and J. Dyck as deacon; Home remedies for a good mouth grease, how to make a barometer, for headaches, and how charcoal can be used for medicine; Letter book that includes Invitation to the Mennonites in Danzig to emigrate to Russia and The Privilege given by Kaiser Paul; poetry and a travel diary detailing the migration of the Wiens family from Russia to Manitoba in 1876.

The third section includes loose pages that were located in the diary. They have been removed, transliterated and translated. This material includes poetry, letters, and recipes.

Epp materials

This series consists of materials that belonged to the Epp family. Included are song and poetry books; correspondence in textual form as well as early correspondence on microfilm; documents pertaining to exemption from military service in World War II; World War I and II registration cards; a sermon book; and a Karl Stumpp map of Odessa .

Arbeitsmaterial für "Neue Heimat in der Chaco Wildnis"

1763 - 1929: Verschiedene Dokumente zur Herkunft der Mennoniten aus Russland, die Bergthaler in Russland, Landsuche in Manitoba, Manuskripte, Fotokopien, darunter das Manifest der Kaiserin Katharina II, Abschrift des Gnadenbriefes Paul Graf Rostoptschin´s und Bevollmächtigung der Delegaten, die nach Manitoba auf Landsuche reisten.
Sammlung von Material zur Erstellung des Buches „Neue Heimat in der Chacowildnis“. Der geschichtliche Hintergrund geht zurück bis ins Jahr 1789, als eine Gruppe preussischer Mennoniten in Süd-Russland ansiedelten. Besondere Beachtung findet der Volkssplitter, der 1836 aus der Kolonie Chortitz auswanderte und etwa 200 km entfernt die Bergthaler Kolonie gründete, von welcher dann wieder einige Gruppen in den Jahren 1874 bis 1876 nach Manitoba, Kanada auswanderten.

Martens Schmidt genealogy chart

Series consists of the following files:

1) Genealogy Chart - Franz Paul Martens and Maria Schmidt Martens. This chart follows Martens descendents and Schmidt descendants. Maria born October 13, 1807 who married Franz Paul Martens born December 12, 1800. (1 file) Box 208

Waisenamt

The documents deal with the division of property after the death of a spouse (Teilungs Kontrakt), immigration finances, repayments of immigration debts to Mennonites in Ontario and the Canadian government, constitutions and bylaws, and correspondence. The majority of the 20th century documents deal with the private schools question, emigration to Paraguay, and travel expenses.

There are 12 sub series plus the materials which were copied by Delbert F. Plett.
