The man at the left is the native preacher of which there are two for six villages. Their level of spiritual understanding is very low and mixed in with their fear of spirits. Others on the picture are some of our team members, left to right, Harold Becker, Roland Brown, Mr. Liu and Glen Graber.” Further context: “During the first part of May, Dr. Brown, Glen Graber, Harold Becker and three natives visited Orchard [sic] Island. On their visit they gave medical service to most of the residents of the Island. At each village an evening meeting was held where pictures both of a public health nature and religious were shown to the people of the village” (MCC Executive Committee Report, July 16, 1955).

Original label: “2). A brief explanation is given to the crowd to clarify the source of the gift and also to explain the contents of the packages and their use.”

MCC personnel missionaries, Formosans and government representatives who participated in a simple cornerstone laying Aug. 21, 1954. “For Service in the Name of Christ” was engraved in the stone in English and Chinese.” An additional semi-transparent label is included with the image, which can be overlayed to identify many of the individuals present.
