Part of Harold Stauffer Bender Papers
Letter written in German by Walter Irmfried Rempel (1913-1973), Göttingen, Germany to John G. Rempel (1890-1963), Rosthern, Saskatchewan, 10 September, 1958. Writing for the first time in years. Before the World War II he had been studying Rempel genealogy, now has been able to collect a great deal more material. Is transmitting the resulting report [filed elsewhere in Bender collection, manuscripts by others] which has been checked by the Mennonitische Forschungstelle [then in Göttingen]/Kurt Kauenhoven and judged to be [term not deciphered]. Wants John G. Rempel to be aware of the work and would like it to be published in the Mennonite Quarterly Review. He is not interested in compensation for the work. He wants the work to contribute to Mennonite historical scholarship. Dr. Kauenhoven says the work is an expansion of the [unpublished?] work of Horst Wiebe.Writing for two reasons: 1) so you would be aware of the work. Expresses appreciation for a relief packet received in 1948 that was a help at a time of great need. Postscript: He has the ancestral tables [Ahnentafeln] and family trees from more than 20 different branches of Rempels. He would like in the next two years to make copies of all the material and deposit in Canada. Is there a place there that specializes in Mennonite family history research?
