Katharina Enns Rempel (1881-1948) with her children, David, Anna, Nicolai and Alice in 1924 just after immigrating to Canada from the Soviet Union, when they lived at the Daniel E. Martin home. She then married Jacob P. Braun and moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

People of Blumenort are gathered around the mass grave of 27 men. One night they were all herded into the basement of a house and shot to death. Two men related to Elvera’s husband were among those who died.
