A small set of personal papers created by a Mennonite composer, arranger, and professor of music at Goshen College.  Materials include a number of original musical compositions and arrangements, an autobiographical sketch, correspondence, conference programs and notes, various writings, and miscellaneous materials.

This small collection was created by Peter Yoder, the grandfather or Walter E. Yoder,  THe account book provides a record of the settling of family estates, sales of goods, loans, and monetary transactions performed on behalf of others.  The remedy book contains instructions for treating various human and animal maladies as well as recipes for tanning leather, making cement, etc.

Certified copy of the naturalization papers of John Beitler, a Bavarian who became an American citizen in Richland County, Ohio, on November 20, 1838.

A book of sermons, handwritten in German, written by Peter Lehman.  Lehman was one of the early bishops of the Croghan-Lowville, New York Amish congregation that immigrated from Alsace.

Jacob Krehbiel was a Mennonite immigrant from Pfrimmerhof (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany) who immigrated to New York in 1831.  This photocopy of a document in German script documents financial transaction in relation to an inheritance [payment of inheritance tax?] in Germany.

A photocopy of [a portion of?] a French census of Anabaptists in Villé, Alsace that lists heads of household and their ages and birthplaces, family members' names and ages, and general observations about the Anabaptist population. Ancestors of Christian Reber (1784-1848) appear to be among the 16 families listed.

Also present in the folder is a biographical sketch of Reber, a photocopy of a German document dated 1542, and an article about the 1780 census.  A photocopy of Reber's passport should be in this folder as well, but is missing as of 06/11/2013.

A photocopy of a document signed by five heirs of Benedict Miller outlining arrangements for financial support of Benedict Miller's widow, Barbara Miller.

An "Erb-Schrift" providing dates of birth and death, when applicable, for the wives and descendants of Christian Yoder (1790-1846). A transcription of this hand-written document is available. Additionally, this collection includes a letter written in 1845 from Christian Yoder (1790-1846) to his son, also named Christian Yoder regarding the state of the Amish Church.

A small set of personal papers of the wife of Mennonite leader Harold Stauffer Bender.  Includes correspondence, an autobiographical essay, examples of Elizabeth Horsch Bender's German translations, materials from her memorial service, and a Goshen College senior seminar paper about Bender.

A small set of personal papers that consist of handwritten Bechtel and Hartmann family histories and a collection of broadsides.  Also includes a photocopy of a handwritten German hymn perhaps written by Abraham A. Meyer and given the English title "Life's Great Balance."  English translations are available for the family histories and the hymn.

A small set of personal papers belonging to a Goshen College professor of commerce who taught typing, shorthand, and consumer advocacy.  Includes information on the history of the Goshen College Business Dept. and several student papers on the spending and shopping  habits of Goshen College students from the mid 1960s through the mid 1970s.
