John Thut Photographs

The richest materials among these photographs are the140 color slides depicing Thut's volunteer work in England with German prisoners of war after World War II and his subsequent travel in the Western United States to Civilian Public Service (CPS) camps. These labeled and well-composed slides include images of Thut's living and working conditions in England, art work made by German POWs, and scenes of CPS work in Montana, South Dakota, and California. Also of note is a slide of Peter and Elfrieda Dyck's wedding gifts.

Other materials among Thut's photographs include a number of poorly-labeled black and white photographic prints of Goshen College in the early 1920s. Notable scenes include a May Day celebration and the construction of the college gymnasium. Also included is his passport obtained in 1944.

Personal papers of a Mennonite psychotherapist with professional expertise in trauma recovery, personal and communal healing, and pastoral boundary issues. Heggen is the author of Sexual Abuse in Christian Homes and Churches (1993) and a frequent presenter nationally and internationally.

In the early 1990s she played a crucial role in bringing John Howard Yoder's repeated violation of women to light by facilitating communication among women who had been violated by Yoder, and by calling upon church authorities to hold Yoder accountable for his actions.  Heggen is also a co-developer and co-presenter of Mennonite Women USA's Sister Care seminars.

Materials in this collection include selected sermons, lectures, workshops, and presentations, reviews of and correspondence received in response to her book on sexual abuse in Christian environments, correspondence and other documents pertaining to the 1992 complaint against John Howard Yoder's sexual misconduct, subject files pertaining to her work with United Mission to Nepal and Mennonite Central Committee, photographs, and miscellaneous materials.

Daniel H. Coffman served as a deacon at Prairie Street Mennonite Church (1893-1899), Olive Mennonite Church (1899-1904), and Clinton Brick Mennonite Church (1904 - 1941). This collection consists primarily of Coffman's correspondence to his brother and sister in Virginia as well as his daughter in Indiana, and contains information regarding church conflicts from 1898 to 1903.  Also in this collection are histories of the Daniel H. Coffman family and the Samuel H. Eldridge family, as well as a photograph of the Eldridge family circa 1890.

This collection documents the activities of members of the Civilian Public Service (CPS) Camp #58 in Farnhurst, Delaware from 1942 through 1946. Camp reunion files give insight into how the CPS experience affected the lives of those who served. Included are D. Paul Miller's personal scrapbook during his time of service, materials related to the camp's softball team (the Red Comb Arrows), The Crusaders Quartet, and later circle letters and reunion documents.

Photographs, ephemera, and other miscellaneous documents pertaining to C. Miford Paul's Civilian Public Service (CPS) work at CPS  Camp No. 45 (Luray, Virginia) and CPS Camp No. 28 (Mederyville, Indiana) and his service to the United Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRA) as a "seagoing cowboy" in 1946.  Although not thoroughly labeled, the photographs are the richest documentation in this collection.  Paul made three voyages with UNRA, sailing on the Henry Dearborn (March, 1946), the Frederick Howe (April, 1946), and the Mount Whitney (August, 1946).  Most photographs of his work as a seagoing cowboy depict his final voyage.  Included among those photographs is a color print depicting a number of volunteers on the ship, including Paul.
