Records pertaining to the decision-making, finanical, and other administrative aspects of the research agency of the (old) Mennonite Church.  Materials include founding documents, publicity materials, meeting minutes, budgets, financial reports, newsletters and other publicity materials, and correspondence of the executive director and treasurer.

Questionnaires, working documents, and the final report of Project #14, a study of participation in Inter-School and Inter-Group athletics by members of Mennonite churches. Researchers should note that this questionnaire only gathered information on men's athletics, and that it only covers congregations affiliated with the (old) Mennonite Church. Questionnaires were filled out by pastors of Mennonite congregations rather than the athletes themselves.

Records of an (old) Mennonite Church study of Mennonite income and giving to the church in 1956.  Includes interpreative reports by Melvin Gingerich and Velma Shank, returned questionnaires and income statements, correspondence, and miscellaneous materials.  The Christian Stewardship Study was designated Project #35 by the Mennonite Research Foundation.

These records document the research process and findings of a survey on Mennonite congregational building projects undertaken between 1919 and 1949 Church Building Study (Project #9). Both new construction and renovations are documented, Records include meeting minutes pertaining to the project's administration, returned questionnaires filed by state, tabulations of results, the manuscript copy of the final report (which was also published in the Gospel Herald), and a small number of photographs of church buildings.

A small set of records pertaining to a study of stewardship (Project 16) in (old) Mennonite Church congregations conducted in 1949.  Questions address the amount of offerings received by local congregations, the use of assessments to fund congregational building and maintenance projects, and the congregational budget.

Correspondence, collected stories, and miscellaneous records pertaining to Project #2, a book by Elizabeth Hershberger Bauman for juveniles entitled Coals of Fire.  The book contains stories illustrating Christian nonresistance and the Golden Rule.

A small set of records consisting of correspondence to obtain sets of Mennonite conference minutes and a typewritten manuscript of the Index of Mennonite and Amish Mennonite Conference Resolutions by Delbert Erb, 1951. Researchers interested in using the index as a reference tool may find a copy in the Mennonite Historical Library (Goshen, Ind.) or the Mennonite Church USA Archives - Goshen reading room.

Project 28, the Laymen's Study, concerns itself with congregational constitutions, budgets, and stweardship. The study was proposed by Laymen's groups in the (old) Mennonite Church, who were seeking opportunities for Mennonite businessmen to assist in congregational administration and development. Records include questionnaires, correspondence, reports, and the 1950 constitution of Prairie Street Mennonite Church (Elkhart, Ind.), which was examined as a model constitution.

Correspondence, questionnaires, and final summary of data for Project 19, a census of Mennonite and Amish men who accepted military service during World War II. The questionnaires record the church status of men who accepted military duty rather than the experiences of these men in the military.

Also inlcuded in these records are the results of a study of midweek prayer, Bible study, Young People's Fellowship, and other meetings at (old) Mennonite congregations.

This small set of records consists primarily of completed questinonaires regarding Mennonite congregational contact with drafted Mennonite men (Mennonite Church in World War II, Project #3).  Also includes examples of pastoral letters sent to drafted men (a number of them from Waldo Mennonite Church (Flanigan, Ill.) and minutes and other records created by the Virginia Mennonite Conference CPS Support Team.

Records pertaining to Project 24, a survey of World War I Mennonite conscientious objectors. Records include correspondence, lists of conscientious objectors, and questionnaires.

Cards containing data regarding Mennonite men'sand women's level of educational achievement.  The data seem to have been gleaned from the Mennonite Family Census and transcribed onto cards for the convenience of those analyzing the data.  The cards record each subject's name, town of current residence, sex, year of birth, marital status, last year of school completed, attendance at a Mennonite school, occupation (farming or not farming[?]), and conference affiliation.  The cards are organized by conference.

Correspondence, questionnaires, and the finished product of Project #29 -- The Directory of Mennonite Employers.  Also filed with these records are survey results and a report from Howard Raid's studies of practices and problems of Mennonite-owned businesses.

Records pertaining to Project 13, Mennonite family censuses conducted in 1940 and 1949-1950.  Materials consist of reports written from the data and select data collected from the census.

Questionnaires from the family census were discarded.  Remaining are only typed cards organized by conference listing the names of the male head of household, occupation, age, and years of education.

Researchers will also find in this series the questionnaires from a related study of unmarried Mennonite women and a report written from the data collected. These surveys provide detailed quantitative and some qualitative data regarding the family, occupational, religious and social lives of single Mennonite women in 1956.

This set of records documents the Mennonite Research Foundation's Project #25:  Mennonite Income and Giving, 1951.  Materials include tables, tabulations, correspondence, and questionnaires arranged by conferences, and miscellaneous financial materials contributed by congregations affiliated with the (old) Mennonite Church.  The results of this study were published in the Gospel Herald on May 26, 1953.
