The series consists of photograph prints and negatives received by "The Canadian Mennonite" from various sources for use in its publication. Photographs were taken by staff, or sent in by individuals or families. Some photographs were requisitioned from news agencies. Not all photographs received by the newspaper were printed. However, many were still retained. Photographs in the collection document family celebrations, congregational and conference events, Mennonites at work and at voluntary service and mission efforts, travel, and world affairs. Where possible, the year, issue number and page location of a published photograph is included in the description of each individual photo.
Negative also. Photo was folded over. Shows him behind a lecturn holding an open Bible. In 1967-68 he was on staff at SBI during his year on furlough. Perhaps the picture was taken at that time. See CM 15-20-3.
Used in CM 16-20-10 before he became pastor of the Vancouver Mennonite Mission Church He had been a high school teacher and a pastor. His wife Lillian taught kindergarten. They had 2 children, Laurel (3 1/2?) & Morlin (1 1/2?).
Informal photo. She is wearing a small checked dress with a wide collar, costume jewelry and a small brimless white hat. On the back of the photo is written Justice. Used in the CM 3-9-7. She was with the MB Mission in India.
CANNOT SCAN Two copies of `p/n'; smaller one is 2.5x3.5. He was M.P. for the Conservatives representing Portage-Neepawa in the Manitoba legislature for several terms. See CM 13-25-15 & 13-45-1.
Used in CM 15-36-3. From Personnel Pictures of MCC, August, 1967. Gary & his wife Selma were going out with their (8 months old) son Philip to Zambia with TAP. Cropped for use (excluding Philip) in SSCM Feb.18, 1969, p. 6.
Used in CM 12-11-4 when he received the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship at the U. of Man. The scholarship gave a stipend of $1,800.00 plus tuition costs. His plans were to use it for graduate studies at an American university.
Used in CM 8-22-1 with article "Books of Mennonite Author Reach 40,000 Circulation In '56." She sold her first short story in 1949. On the back of the photo is written "May 5 Today cover."
Used in CM 4-36-1 when she was ordained by the Nordheim Mennonite Church, Dundurn, Saskatchewan, for missionary service among the Hopi people of Arizona, serving with the General Conference Board of Missions. The negative shows her sitting on a couch.
Negative also. Two copies of photo. Used in CM 12-13-7 when he rec'd an award for his speech on "Beatniks." He is holding the plaque & his father Isaac & brother Donald are next to him.
Wedding photo of the Epps with them standing in front of closed drapes. To the right a plaque with a verse on it can be seen on the wall; such plaques were used in wall decoration in Mennonite homes.
The Epps on their wedding day. He is opening a small package while she looks on smiling. Behind them on the wall hangs a plaque with a verse on it: "Dein Wort ist meine...."
Negative also. Used in CM 9-33-3 when she began a 2 yr. term of service with MCC in Jordan. This photo shows her when she rec'd her RN degree in Vancouver, B.C. She had also completed a BRE at the MBBC in Wpg. in 1959.
