Delegates to the East Reserve

This photo is of the Mennonite delegates from Russia preparing to depart from the Federal Dominion Lands Office in Winnipeg to inspect the East Reserve. Government officials and even some Native people are present in the photo (note: this is only a copy of the original).

Johan Bartsch monument and headstone

This photo is of the Johan Bartsch monument and headstone in Rosental Colony, south Russia. Bartsch was one of the delegates sent to south Russia to secure land for Mennonites in the 18th century.

The Red Gate

This photo is of the train tracks leading out of the Russia and into Latvia. This is the gate as it was during Czarist times. It was replaced by the Bolsheviks with a more elaborate iron structure with a star on top. The Bolshevik structure was called the Red Gate.
