Biographical history

Gerhard Doerksen (1865-1949) emigrated to Canada with his parents Gerhard and Helena (Dick) Doerksen from Fischau, Molotschna, South Russia. They joined the Kleine Gemeinde church and settled in the Manitoba Mennonite East Reserve in the village of Blumenhof, in 1875. Gerhard married Sara E. Plett and continued to live in Blumenhof. In 1915 the family moved to Satanta, Kansas. The family returned to Manitoba 1940 and settled in Mennonite East Reserve, in the village of Blumenort.

Archival history

The material was passed from Gerhard Doerksen to son Henry Doerksen to nephew Gerry Doerksen (executor of Henry Doerksen's estate) to son Garth Doerksen. Delbert Plett photocopied the material in about 1995 and donated one copy to the Centre in August 2000.
