Dietrich Gaeddert was the minister of the Alexzanderwohl Mennonite Church, Russia 1867-1874. He became the leader of a Mennonite group settling near Inman, Kansas 1874. He organized Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church and became its elder in 1876. He was the business leader of the settlement. He dealt with the Santa Fe Railroad in securing land and made loans to settlers. He wrote extensive diaries in the years 1857-1876.
